Support for the data migration from Sberbank to MBH
Client Description
Sberbank Hungary was the Hungarian subsidiary of the international Sberbank Group, providing banking services for both retail and corporate clients. Its activities included lending, account management, and offering various savings and investment products. It operated under the ownership of the Russian parent company and aimed to provide innovative, customer-focused financial solutions in the Hungarian market.
Project General Description
The integration of the data from Sberbank, successfully acquired by MBH Bank, became a critical task. This large-scale project involved complex data migration, harmonization of differing data structures, and the alignment of processes. IT and business experts worked closely together throughout the project to ensure a smooth transition and maintain data integrity.

Challenge
The data migration posed not only a technical challenge but was also critical from a business perspective. During the project, we had to ensure that all relevant customer and transaction data was accurately and completely transferred to the new system while adhering to all regulatory requirements and data protection standards.
During the design of the data transfer process, we needed to conduct a detailed assessment of the data structures of both banks. This included mapping the existing systems of Sberbank, identifying data types and formats, and thoroughly examining the MBH database. In the planning of the process, we placed significant emphasis on compliance with data protection regulations and ensuring the security of customer data.
How we helped?
- Data Transfer Process Design During the design of the data transfer process, we conducted a detailed analysis of the data structures of both banks. The process also encompassed data cleansing, transformation, and validation.
- Identification of Data Sources We mapped and categorized relevant data stored in Sberbank’s systems.
- Historical Data Management Handling historical data was a particularly delicate task during the project. This data is crucial for the long-term operation of the bank, regulatory compliance, and the preservation of customer history.
- Development of Mappings and Specifications The development of interfaces and specifications was critical for the successful data migration. This process summarized the detailed analysis of both Sberbank and MBH systems, comparing data structures and formats, and identifying the necessary transformations. During the development of the specifications, we worked closely with both IT and business areas.
- Managing Data Quality Challenges We faced various challenges, including inconsistent data formats, incomplete records, and outdated information. To address these issues, we developed a comprehensive data cleansing and correction strategy.
- Development and Implementation of Loading Jobs The jobs were designed to efficiently process large volumes of data while ensuring data integrity and traceability throughout the process.
- Temporary Data Extraction Process During the transition period, we established a temporary data extraction process to ensure compliance with monthly and annual closing requirements. This solution allowed for continuous business operations and the preparation of accurate financial reports even during the transitional phase.
